A E Ransome OBE
Welcome to the Commonwealth Table Tennis History.
It gives me great pleasure to introduce the first documented History of Commonwealth Table Tennis, thirty years after the first Championship was played in Singapore in 1971.
This History is being published at a very important time for Commonwealth Table Tennis as we are participating in the Commonwealth Games for the first time in 2002 in Manchester. The History shows the strength of our tradition and is a tribute to the associations, officials, coaches and players who have contributed to the Commonwealth Table Tennis Federation by participating in the fifteen Championships so far.
Copies of this document will be circulated to all Commonwealth Games Council Members and Commonwealth Games Federations as well as to all members of the Commonwealth Table Tennis
My thanks go particularly to Margaret Walden of Canada who has undertaken the majority of the research and documentation for this publication, to Keith Bowler of Australia and the late Denis George of Scotland, and to Detlev and Sheila von Nottbeck of Canada for their valuable typographical assistance.
It is our intention that the History of the Commonwealth Table Tennis Federation will now be kept up to date, with the second edition to be produced shortly after the 16th Championships in 2003.
Alan Ransorne, O.B.E.
Chairman (England.)
