Great win for Northern Ireland, Ashley Robinson the top performer

ROBINSON Ashley (1)

Ashley Robinson two great 5 game victories

The top seeded teams continued to sweep everybody else away and with a string of 3-0 victories Singapore, India  and England  booked top slots in the stage 3 matches to come, but for the 4th Seeded team, Scotland it was a very different story as No 6 Seeds Northern Ireland gained a win in a very competitive match 3-2 to probably consign Scotland into a 5th/6th playoff match.

Things started  much as the Scots would have hoped, Gavin Rumgay disposing of Paul McCreery in 5 very tight games. Craig Howieson lost to Ashley Robinson once also in a 5 game match and  Chris Wheeler overcame Owen Cathcart in 4 games. Scotland 2-1 up with 2 matches to go.

The trouble was  the Irish won both of the remaining matches Ashley Robinson started the turnaround coming back from a 2 game deficit to win a huge deuce third game and go on from there to defeat Gavin Rumgay in 5 tight games. Paul McCreery took the final match against Craig Howieson 3-1 again coming back from a game down and Northern Ireland celebrated like they had won the event, the chances being that they will play for the 3rd/4th place tomorrow afternoon against England who are likely to finish second in the other group

The Womens teams completed their 2nd stage groups today, again Singapore were dominant in group E beating England 3-1, Karina Le Fevre beating Zhang Wanling in 3 straight games thus winning the one game for England to relegate England to second slot in the group.

The Womens groups cross over so England face India and Wales face Singapore in the semifinal matches tomorrow morning after Wales went down 3-0 to India,

Cyprus and Sri Lanka will play of for 5th/6th tomorrow  and the 7/9th playoff group G will be finished tomorrow too, South Africa have finished in 7th place already and Northern Ireland and Trinidad and Tobago will finish off tomorrow too.
